2008 Syrah Paso Robles - Glenrose Vineyard
Vineyard Notes
The Glenrose Vineyard is carved out 1800 feet above the sea and is one of the most distinctive and limestone-laden vineyards we work with. Our Syrah is hand-harvested from four designated rows, located on the terraced sections of the vineyard. This west-facing terraced mountain top benefits from the cool Pacific Ocean air flowing through the Templeton Gap. Vines are planted directly into the steep, exposed chalky limestone rock, utilizing Syrah clone 99, obtained from famed Chateauneuf de Pape producer, Chateau de Beaucastel. The low yielding vines produce small cylindrical clusters with concentrated, tiny berries.
Winemaker Notes
The 2008 Glenrose Vineyard Syrah is our second offering from this vineyard and is one of three KATIN vineyard designated Syrahs released in 2008. The 2008 vintage was influenced by the cold, dry winter that preceded it. The second consecutive year of drought conditions. The summer saw temperature swings from extreme high,to extreme lows and was a year of patience when deciding to pick at peak ripeness. The Syrah from Glenrose was picked nearly 3 weeks later than previous years. The 2008 will be marked by concentrated color, pure fruit aromatics, and a well rounded structure. The Syrah was aged in 33 percent new French oak barrels for 18 months and bottled unfined and unfiltered.
